Spice Up

Your Hair Color

Looking to add a little color to your hair? Here's what you need to know:

Try on a wig or add clip-on pieces to help determine the best color for you. Go one or two shades lighter or darker than your base to get a nice hue. Dark shades tend to work best with short hair. Warm browns like chocolate and chestnut are colors that work on everyone.

For dark complexions, consider staying within the dark brown or black family. For those with light complexions, try to stay away from blue-black because it can create a contrast that is too harsh. Have a professional apply your color for best results.

Winterize Your Hair

As the cold weather ushers in, you will need to take some added steps to keep your hair healthy during the winter months. Before you put on that wool hat make sure it has a lining. Wool pulls the moisture out of your hair. You will also want to wear a scarf over your wool coat if your hair is long so it doesn't break off at the ends as it rubs on the coat. Continue to use the Vibrant Gloss Hair Elixir to keep your hair moist because the heat in your home can also dry out your hair.

Hair Care During Exercise

As you start or continue your exercise routine, be sure you're preparing your hair for the intense workout. You want to make sure that you wrap your hair up before working out. The salt in your perspiration can dry out your hair causing it to break off. You also want to wash your hair more frequently.

Braids

Braids are a good alternative for giving your hair a break from over processing and heat damage. However, you cannot stop caring for your hair. It is imperative to continue your hair care routine. Here are a few things you want to do:

  • Continue to shampoo your hair at least every two weeks.
  • Keep your scalp moist and be sure to oil around the edges.
  • Be careful when shampooing your hair; braids should be pulled up when performing your cleansing ritual (or regimen) which reduces the stress on the hair; you don’t want the water to weigh down the hair because it will rip the hair out from the root causing bald spots.
  • Be sure to condition your hair because your hair is intertwined within the braids.
  • You can spray a light oil on your braids such as the Glossy Hair Elixir because it will emulsify the hair without weighing the braids down; do not use hair grease as will attract dirt and unwanted air pollutants.
  • You can spray/pour Sea Breeze directly on the scalp in those hard to reach areas where the braids cannot be taken down.
  • Cover your braids when you sleep; if you have dry hair/scalp you should wear a hair net so the scalp can breathe.
  • Don’t keep braids in for more than 3 months.

Chlorine and Salt Water

A day at the pool or the beach is a great way to spend a hot summer day. You’ll want to definitely shampoo and care for your hair after swimming at the pool or beach.

Conditioning your hair is key. Be sure to apply heat for at least 20 minutes by sitting under a dryer or wearing a heating cap. Rinse the conditioner with cold water because it will seal the hair shaft and give your hair a beautiful shine
